Think about it for a minute. Seven world championships in the last decade, and as we write this, it’s looking a bit like an eighth, just quietly.
To achieve something like that, you need to get a lot of things right: great team, great riders, a modicum of luck we’ll admit, but most of all you need a great platform to build the whole campaign on, and that means a great bike.
Yamaha kicked off the era of 400/450cc 4-stroke domination, appearing in 1997, and winning the premier crown for the first time in 1999 in the hands of Andrea Bartolini. Then the domination of Everts continued from 2001 to 2006 and now Josh Coppins leads the way in 2007.
The YZ-F is a bike born out of the hardship of Grand Prix motocross, and that’s a pedigree that can’t be copied in a lab. But every new year brings a new beginning, and for the year 2008, we’ll unveil a new and even more mature YZ-F, with all the improvements in character that our riders and our customers asked for, plus a few extra innovations our engineers have been working on.
