CDR Rockstar Yamahas Jay Marmont has recorded his first win of the inaugural Super X series at Dairy Farmers Stadium in Townsville tonight.
Marmont mastered the Man on Man format, holding his nerve against championship rival Chad Reed in a heated semi-final stoush and going on to take the final win against Daniel McCoy.
The YZ450F pilot had been on the podium at every round to date, and tonights victory is good reward for the manufacturers leading Pro Open squad.
Victorian rider Matt Ryan flew the Yamaha flag in the Lites class, finishing sixth.

CDR Rockstar Yamahas Jay Marmont won a heated battle for round honours at this evenings sixth round of the Super X series at Townsvilles Dairy Farmers Stadium.
A consistent podium finisher, the top step of the dais had eluded the 2008 Pro Open Motocross champion to date, but his tenacity showed through as he battled the high-pressure format finals stages for a deserved win.
Heat, humidity and drenching downpours added to the challenge for the YZ450F pilot, who was consistently fast throughout qualifying and his first heat.
Marmont elimated Michael Addison in the first dual-rider heat before facing a tough race against teammate Cheyne Boyd in the quarters.
He held his nerve and went on to secure a spot against Chad Reed in the semis, upstaging the world champion with a no-holds-barred style of riding.
Facing Daniel McCoy in the final, Marmont left nothing to chance, clearing out and taking the win by almost four seconds over the space of the two-lap dash.
He said the format had played a big part in the result but was still very proud to have notched up his first win of the season.
"I knew this format would be tough, it could work against you or it could work with you," said Marmont. "The rain and the humidity made it even more difficult, I knew I would just have to stick it out and be the quickest and hungriest over the space of the two lap races."
"I felt good in the heats and then had to battle hard against Boydy - it was a tough situation to be in but thats the way the draw worked out.
"I knew I would have to ride aggressively against Chad and try to force him into mistakes - we hit each other a number of times and he came off second best.
"That was a real confidence booster, I carried the momentum over and won pretty easily in the final race. It feels great to give CDR its first Super X win of the season, weve been working towards this since Perth.
"In terms of the championship, my consistency has really paid off; Im now only 14 points behind with a round to go.
"Im heading to Townsville to ride my hardest and hope for a miracle, it would be a dream result and as we saw tonight, anythings possible."
Team Principal Craig Dack praised Marmont for taking up the initiative and adjusting his style to suit the format.
"With these races its really up for grabs, theres an element of luck involved in moving through to the finals but Jay did ride exceptionally well tonight and were excited to have taken the first Super X win for Yamaha," said Dack.
"The draw didnt pan out in our favour, as it happened Jay ended up against Cheyne which was always going to be tough.
"Jays win against Chad showed how determined and tenacious he can be, its a good reward for him having worked so hard and ridden so consistently all season.
"We head to Brisbane now having closed the gap a little to Chad. Everyone knows he is the worlds best but this result shows how costly mistakes can be - weve still got our fingers crossed."
Boyd rode a consistent series of races but ultimately lost out to his teammate in the quarter final.
He ended the event in fifth place and retains third on the standings on 101 points; Marmont is second with 131.
Yamaha Racing Pro Lite
Another lacklustre Pro Lites result for Yamaha has highlighted the cost of injury to the manufacturer in the 250cc title chase.
Hot and humid conditions coupled with a series of downpours made for an especially challenging event at Townsvilles Dairy Farmers stadium.
Serco Yamahas Ford Dale was third-fastest in the seeded riders qualifying, setting himself up for a solid result.
He threw down the challenge to class leader Matt Moss in their heat, finishing a close second after 6 laps.
He looked set to record a deserved podium finish after a clean start, lapping with the lead group in third early in the race.
His hard work was quickly undone when a mishap on lap 3 put him to the rear of the field. Dale battled through to finish 12th and salvaged valuable championship points for his effort.
Two YZ250F riders finished in the top ten this evening. Matt Ryan continued his good run of form to secure sixth, Fiat Yamaha Young Gun rider Luke Davis grabbed 9th.
The championship concludes at Brisbanes QSAC next weekend.
